The Japan Film Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded to promote Japanese film and culture in the United States.
JFS is an all-volunteer network of artists, business people, and film lovers who share an appreciation for the diverse world of Japanese cinema. Together, we aspire to showcase the work of Japanese filmmakers and non-Japanese artists inspired by Japanese cinema and culture.
Our mission is to help enhance understanding and build relationships between Japan and the United States through film, and to work together with artists, fans, and the public to create positive change in society.
Goals to Achieve Our Mission:
- To conduct the βLA EigaFest - Japanese Film Festival -β: A showcase for Japanese film in America that provides a forum to connect fans, talent, industry professionals, supporters, and festival staff and fosters various opportunities for networking between the American and Japanese film and entertainment industries.
- To hold a variety of screening events for American audiences that feature Japanese and Japanese-influenced films.
- To attract young newcomers to the world of Japanese cinema, provide current news, information, and entertainment for veteran enthusiasts, and bring together people who are passionate about Japanese film.
- To serve as a platform in the United States that allows Japanese filmmakers the opportunity to connect with Hollywood.
- To provide a venue for non-Japanese filmmakers to showcase work influenced by Japanese film and culture.
- To bring support to other film festivals and artistic efforts through cross promotion, volunteer activities, club events, and other means.
